Behind the Facade

With a tip of the hat to Edward Burtynsky, Chris Jordan shares with us his own striking photography - pictures of freight containers, cell phone graveyards, and mountains of crushed cars (most are shot near Seattle). All to "take the viewer on a tour behind the façade of the American Dream into the underbelly of our consumer society, where the vast cumulative effects of our individual consumer choices are more visible".

Behind the scenes is also a running theme for New York photographer Naomi Harris. Her award-winning pics show people in situations - Rubik's Cube World Championships, a John Kerry fund raiser, pornstar academy, teen mania ministries - that are at the same time quite plain but also rather revealing.

And in a completely different vein there's the freakish photos by Fredrik Odman of Sweden. Insects, weirdos, and humals, oh my!
