The New Creative Mind
Coming from an ad and design perspective, David Armano offers a couple posts in support of holistic creative thinking. The new creative mind, he says, consists of four dimensions: analytical, expressive, curious and sensual. And these four elements are embodied in so-called T-shaped people; those who are strong at both imagining concepts and following through with execution. Couldn't agree more.
Here's Armano's visualization of the idea:
Although not exactly alike, this is the sort of balance I've championed here for years on this blog - a combination of the creative (doing) with the generalist (thinking) - and that others like Diane Morello (versatilists), Tim Brown (design thinking), Dan Pink (A Whole New Mind), Tom Kelley (T-shaped people in Ten Faces of Innovation) and others have similarly expressed. I'm pleased to see the idea gradually catching on and being discussed seriously as a legitimate and desired skillset.
